VPAT
What is a VPAT and Why is it Needed?
A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a document that provides a detailed analysis of how accessible a product, such as software or a website, is according to established accessibility standards like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The VPAT outlines the extent to which the product complies with these standards, highlighting any areas where the product might fall short and detailing the steps taken to address these issues.
The primary purpose of a VPAT is to provide transparency and accountability, demonstrating a company’s commitment to accessibility. For businesses and organizations, particularly those working with federal agencies or in regulated industries, having a VPAT is crucial.
This commitment can enhance the company’s reputation, expand its customer base, and ultimately contribute to a more inclusive digital landscape.
